Chilton: Reviews
Speaking of ATL talent, please check out the album, IS, by local vocalist/guitarist, Chilton and his band TeksBukSeks (read: "textbook sex"). Don't let the "GQ poses" fool you 'cause the album is a gritty mix of funk, rock, and soul yet still eclectic enough not to sound like the same type of material that fits these categories by the many artists who end up sounding the same. The lyrics are definitely unique, but you can still relate and that's a good thing. I've seen him perform in person enough to say that it is an entertaining experience 'cause he acts the fool on stage, but it doesn't take away from he and his band's overall talent. There was a time when R&B was made by Men's Men like Wilson Pickett, Sly and his Family, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Prince. Sometime after this it took a decade-and-a-half dip into guys singing through their noses to programmed drums (did somebody say Boyz II Men?) and frontin' gangsta rap that wasn't representin' nuthin' but nuthin'. Finally the genre returns home to pure get-down guitar and kick-in-the-ass drums on Chilton's debut, IS. It IS new, it IS different, and if you're wise it IS in your record collection. Purchase now.
I just got it a few days ago and I haven't stopped listening to it since...you have an amazing sound...its what me and my friends call *hott sexx* music, which is definately a good thing! We have already done warm-ups to it in dance class and its starting to become a favorite...Its nice to know in a world of bubble-gum pop and gangster rap...there is someone with originality!!
Hey I am feeling ur vibe! I love ur music. Good luck on ur journey and success! Peace, Love and so much Soul!
Hey there, this music is great and thx for introducing it to me. Would be great to see live sometime and I plan too.
I really like your musical skills. It's very different from what's out there today, it's what I would refer to as real music. Keep up the good work :-)
Your music makes me want to strut around town with large shades on while smiling to myself :-)
I am a Prince fan and I have to say you sound-vocally similar sometimes-please take it as a compliment!
Did you write the song Ass whuppins? I can't even type it without cracking up...I know its fitting for the song and it has serious lyrics, which are good by the way, but I can't help but laugh each time I hear the word.
Hey! I wish you much success! I know it's hard out there in the industry right now, but don't give up, continue to be different because "different" is so needed right now.... I enjoyed listening to your Soul/Funk sound. Love that "SuperStar"! Those guitar lessons really payed off. Please come back to Nashville sometime, I would love to hear you guys live. Peace and Love.-CS
Breathe taking, absolutly breathe taking! Of all the CD's that I have bought this year. Jill Scotts', Van Hunt's, Prince's. This is by far my favorite. I just can't believe where he takes his thoughts musically and lyrically. I think he could single handedly save R&B radio if he ever got the chance to be on there. However I think that he is too good for any sort of format and so his biggest strength is also his biggest weakness. I love this CD and I hope I get the chance to see him live.
